Tikhonov Arkady Konstantinovich

180 years D.K. Chernov and the effect of the discovery of iron polymorphism by him on the development of heat treatment processes for metals in the world

Arkady Konstantinovich Tikhonov, doctor of technical sciences, professor — a well-known Russian scientist in the field of heat treatment and materials — is the Chairman of the Russian Union «Society of Metal Science and Heat Treatment.» In 1960, he graduated from the Magnitogorsk Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, from 1960 he worked at the Ural Automobile Plant, and from 1968 at the Volga Automobile Plant from the head of the thermal workshop to the science advisor of AVTOVAZ JSC. The author of the projects of thermal workshops of URALAZ, AVTOVAZ, KAMAZ, the theory of acceleration of carbonitriding called «Tikhonov-Krishtal Mechanism». Author of more than 200 publications, monographs and inventions, “Atlas of microstructures of steels used in the automotive industry” 1999, Monographs “Metallurgy and heat treatment in the automotive industry” 782s. 2018 Prize named after P.P. Anosova RAS 1999, IFHTSE Diploma for a lecture at the XX Congress in Beijing 2012, the Russian Federation Government Prize in Science and Technology 2013. Honorary Member of IFHTSEc 2015 A.K. Tikhonov — Honored Engineer of Russia, Honored Inventor of the USSR, Honorary Distributor of Russia, full member of the Russian and International Engineering Academies, awarded with orders and medals of the USSR and the Russian Federation. In 1999, A.K. Tikhonov organized the construction of the first memorial monument to DK Chernov in the city of Yalta to mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Russian scientist. Advisor to the General Director of TsNIIICHERMET named after I.P. Bardeen.

Stefan Hok graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics with a degree in materials science and mechanical engineering in 1978 and began work on the development of amorphous materials. In 1988 he defended his thesis (Ph.D) at the Max Planck Institute, Stuttgart, Germany, and worked in the field of sintered permanent magnets. Since 1991, he has collaborated with the Department of Corporate Technology Materials ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Since 2011, he served as Director of Science at ZF Marine in Padua, Italy. He is currently the Secretary General of the IFHTSE.

Marcel A.J. Somers

Lakhta Memorial Lecture: Chemical-thermal engineering of stainless steel surfaces with elements of implementation; symbiosis of science, technology and innovation

Marcel A.J. Somers is the Head of the Materials and Surface Engineering Section of the Technical University of Denmark. He received a master’s degree (1985) and a doctoral degree (1989) from Delft University of Technology (Netherlands). After working in industry (Philips) and an additional 7 years at the Delft University of Technology, he received the title of professor at the Technical University of Denmark in 1997. He is co-author of about 300 publications in journals, books and conference materials, co-inventor of 10 patents. He was awarded several awards for research and innovation, including the ASM European Lecturer Award (1999), Alex Foss Gold Medal (2014). He is an Honorary Member of ASM International (2016).

Rolf Zenker

Electronic beam — more than surface hardening

Rolf Zenker received a doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing.) From the Karl-Marx-Stadt Technical University and a habilitated doctor’s degree (habil.) From the Technical University of Freiberg (TU BAF). He has worked at various universities in Germany as a leading researcher and associate professor, as well as at industrial enterprises as the head of various research departments and managing director. Since 2003, he holds the title of Professor TU BAF. Together with Dr.-Ing. A. Buchwalder organized a research group in the field of electron-beam and combined technologies at the Institute of Materials Science. His company Zenker Consult specializes in technology development, transfer and consultancy, as well as research and interdisciplinary project management. He is a member of several national and international associations.

Rolf Zenker is the author of more than 300 publications in scientific journals and a large number of reports at international conferences, has 53 patents. The promotion of young scientists in the further development of electron-beam technologies is especially close to his heart.
